Prawn noodles soup for the soul

2 sick toddlers + 1 sick mom is the worst combo ever !

We havent been so ill for a long long time (God bless !) I heard about kids falling sick for a few months to 1 year when they start school. Since I cant prevent, all I can do is to increase their vitamins intake & make sure they eat well.. and pray very hard !

Kayla was down with fever last Thursday, followed by me & Kieran. Daddy had to take leave on Friday to bring all of us to the doctor. Kayla's condition was the worst - she couldnt hold down any fluid that day & I was very scared. Do I need to bring her to the children's hospital? Do I ask my parents to come or do I get help from our relatives here??

I prayed so hard.

Miraculously, we all became better on Saturday. Just like that ! Kids are eating well and active again. Today, I am back to "work" - oh how I love my job - and I made tasty prawn noodles soup to warm our tummies and our soul.

I'm still alive!

I've nothing much (or interesting) to blog about, except that I was mentally and physically drained from taking care of my 2 feverish babies for the past few days. Yes, Kayla was down too!

They are alot better today.

Anyway, guess what I bought ?


I lug back a "real" bowling set for my kids & my old man!!


They are made of soft rubber foam but very sturdy. Each pin is about 29cm tall. Fat & cute hor?

My feverish baby

Past few days, the weather was very very bad ! Cold like winter and afternoon hot like summer !! I always have 2 sets of clothings in my car, for winter & for summer !

Kieran is down with fever but thank God he is still very active & eating well!!

Kieran had a bad cough last Sunday. I tried to "self-medicate" with the medicines I got from Dr. Ong but it didnt work.

I was so upset.

Thank God for the new friends I got to know thru friends in Spore. They recommended a few popular GPs near where I am staying. There is also a very good children's hospital in case of emergency (touch wood!). I quickly brought Kieran to see a GP and I felt so so relieved his lungs are cleared.

At times like this, in a foreign land, I really appreciate the help & concern I get from friends here.

Big hole in my pocket

At TMC today:

1. Kayla- chickenpox jab

2. Kieran- chickenpox AND pneumococal jabs

3. Mummy me- gynae checkup

Pocket burnt: $378 + 216 !!!!!!

Both of them didnt make a sound when the jabs were given. Dr Ong was impressed.. esp. with Kieran (1 on each thigh)!

I tried going to other PDs nearer to my home but their condition din improve. After a few times, my man & I decided not to waste time & more money on other doctors..ever again!

Kayla was really sick last week. She had high fever for a few days. Popo was so upset and kept saying the female doc. (to cover during Dr. Ong's absence) was lousy. Ha ha! In the end, I had to make another trip to SBCC to say hello to my Uncle. At the same time, I brought Kieran for his 18 mths jab.

Dr Ong gave Kayla Rhiniramine syrup which din make any sense to me, cuz she didnt have any flu! Her throat was abit red though. Anyway, after 2 days of the flu syrup she is completely well! MAGIC..

Kieran's last Jab

Yes.. we were at Dr Ong's this morning again. Kieran was supposed to take this jab at 18 mths but he was unwell so delayed till now. Doctor checked on Kayla too. She is much better today.

Not again!

We really should consider moving nearer to TMC! My poor Kayla was down with a viral fever on Wed night (must have caught the virus fr her classmate) and for the past 2 days, her temp was between 38 to 39.5. So brought her to Dr. Ong's clinic this morning but we saw Dr. Julia Wong instead, because Uncle Ong is on leave.

She had to do a urine test. Luckily she is toilet trained & cooperative so made collection easier. Thank God, no urine infection. Dr. Wong said no sore throat & lungs are cleared as well.

I paid $70 for another bottle of fever medicine!!!! Oh well...

No sign of fever

Updates: Strangely (after the 6hrs wait & $61 consultation + 1 bottle of paracetamol!) Kieran's fever is gone! Imagine I waited for so long & all I got was a bottle of fever medicine, which I already have - 3 bottles to be exact!

His temperature was 39 all the way, until I stepped into Dr. Ong's clinic. When I reached home, his fever was gone. Miracle or not?? Maybe I should hang a picture of Uncle Ong at home!

Anyway, I am so happy Kieran is fine. :)

R-O-A-R

Guess where I brought Kieran to & spent 6 hours and paid $8 for carpark???

To Dr. Ong E.K's clinic!! Kieran was alittle feverish on Sunday and had high fever last night. We suspected might be due to his teething and Dr. Ong confirmed that. He said Kieran's left molars are erupting and right molars are going to erupt! His throat is abit red & dry (despite drinking tons of water) too.

We had to wait for SO LONG for our turn today because there were 15 newborns, 3 deliveries and MANY walk-in.

Poor Kieran waited until his hairs all stand and curly!!

We had lunch at "Cafe de TMC". Kieran talked to the spoon while I ate.

Miracle doctor

Only Dr. Ong's miracle touch & medication helps Kieran. Daddy always tell me "Doctors are all the same.. same medicine what" but our son proved him otherwise.

And so we were at Dr Ong's clinic this morning and as usual, Kieran was so happy running around.

As suggested by doc, I gave Kieran some cow's milk to try and I am SO HAPPY he is not allergic to it anymore (no vomitting)... finally!!

Good Friday

God has been really good to me.. Kayla recovered completely overnight! Miracle! He knows my mum will be going away tomorrow & I wont be able to cope.

One mummy's pain

Sleepless night again..

Yesterday afternoon, Kayla's temp was within the "normal" fever range of 38 - 38.5 but it went up t0 39- 40 at night. Between 12am to 3am, my mum & I were sponging her like crazy.. and she cried & cried. Finally her fever went away at 6am..

I felt so helpless, angry (with myself) & depressed.

Her constant whining was stressing me out.. I couldn bathe, eat in peace, or stay out of her sight for more than a min.

..and then she said the most heart wrenching words to me, "Mummy sorry. Mummy sayang me." I hugged her and cried.

Sleepless in Hougang

Just when I thought Kayla was on the way to recovery, she developed a high fever (temp. 39) at 10pm, last night. Temperature continued to go up at 12am. No choice, I had to use the insert to try to bring it down. She was shivering so I hugged her to sleep. You can imagine how my painful my heart was..

We took turns to sponge her and the temp. dipped slightly. At 3.30am, it went up again to 39. We couldn do anything but to continue with the sponging & giving her sips of cold water.

Then Kieran woke up for his milk & refused to sleep till 5.30am!

Finally managed to catch some sleep at 6am. At 730am, my mum woke me up. Kayla's temp was at 40! Daddy & I quickly brought her to TMC to see Dr Ong. As the appointments were full, we had to wait. One of the nurses told us "fever is not considered as an emergency.. so no priority".. SO ANGRY! Luckily, her fever had subsided & we didnt have to wait for long to see doc.

By the time we reached home, had our lunch & settled down, it was about 2pm. I was both physically & emotionally drained.. Mum, Kayla & I managed to catch a good long nap.. while daddy jagar Kieran. How sweet..

My no.1 is down..

Past 2 days were extremely tiring for me..

My mum had a minor sprain on her lower back so she couldnt help me out with the kids.. and yesterday, Kayla was down with stomach flu (my cousin said greedy people always get it. I think so too!).

This is how my Monday went:

Mum went to see a doc. in the morning. Due to some timing issue, Kayla had to pon tang school (she was ok in the morning). After her nap at 3pm, she had fever.. then vomitted twice. Of all days, Kieran chose to be exceptionally sticky to me. He refused to be carried or entertained by my maid. So I had to carry him & attend to my girl.

Brought her to see a PD in the evening. Mom drove. My two Koala bears clung on to me at the backseat.

I noticed Kieran was quite different.. He is a very independent little boy but yesterday he will scream for me when I am out of his sight. I saw him walking to every corner of the house looking for me. What an unusual but heart warming sight.. cant wait to hear him call Mama.

Anyway, both old & young are much better today. I am so happy!

My baby is unwell

Sometimes I wish I can prevent my children from falling sick or from getting hurt. Unfortunately, I cant.. Children are more prone to viruses and over time they will have stronger immune system.. a statement I have heard of so many times but I still cant help feeling lousy when they fall sick.

Kieran took his 15mths jab on the 28th Jan'08. Doctor said he may have fever between the 5th to the 10th day. Today is the 8th day and he has slight fever, plus he has runny nose for 3 days already. He slept for less than an hour in the afternoon (usually he will nap for 2-3hrs) and kept fussing. Mom said maybe hes teething..

Finally after a bottle of milk, he slept at 9.30pm.

I hope he gets well soon.. I want to bring him for a swim.
